What writing issues do you struggle with, and how do you solve them?
I struggle most with prioritizing writing.
There are so many things authors have to do from managing multiple social media accounts, to marketing, to promotions, to newsletters, to livestreams, to formatting, to blog posts, to running two large online author/reader events. I could literally spend all my time doing those things and never write another word.
I’ve worked to prioritize what’s most important so that I can fit in writing, but there are moments where I have time sensitive stuff that needs done and writing ends up on the backburner.
What sparks your creativity?
Peace. Being peaceful and relaxed sparks my creativity. If I’m stressed or burned out my creativity dries up. Some writers thrive on stress. Not me.
Who is your hero? And why?
My husband. In so many ways, meeting him and marrying him saved me from going down alternate roads in my life. Roads that would not have led anywhere good. He has been my steadfast supporter, my biggest cheerleader, and my best friend.
What one event in your childhood had the greatest effect on your writing career?
Learning to read! From the moment I learned to read I was frustrated with authors who didn’t end books the way I thought they should end. When I complained to my teacher about this, she suggested I become a writer. So here I am!
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be and what would you do?
I would love to spend a week in a cabin in the middle of nowhere with just my husband and my dog. I don’t want any internet or social media, and no electronics of any kind. I’d love to read books, play games, do puzzles, and go on super long walks in nature. And if I wanted to write, I’d write on paper.
What is your writing style?
Hmm… This is a hard one. I honestly don’t know for sure.
I try to make my novels deeply emotional. Most of my characters are damaged and have suffered traumas, but meeting their person gives them the safety to heal. My books are unpredictable and full of twists readers never see coming. Readers often comment “I’ve never read a book like this before.”
What advice would you give to new authors?
Take the time to learn to your craft so you can write the BEST book possible. Don’t publish something just to publish it. Join writers’ organizations. Network with writers. Find a critique group. Learn about show don’t tell, passive voice, echoes, deep pov. And make sure you are reading the best sellers in your genre.
What is your best book marketing hack?

Right now, what I mostly do, is just share me with my readers. I’m the person behind the books. I’m real. Not AI or a bot. I have feelings. I have good days and bad days just like anyone else. So, I just try to share me and maybe if they like me, they’ll give my books a chance.
Why did you write this book?
The premise for Defying Evil air dropped into mind. The son of a serial killer falls in love with his father’s only surviving victim. I just had to explore the concept. Defying Evil was born.
What do you do to relax?
I take long, hot baths by candlelight every single night.
