Miv Evans is a British national who relocated to Los Angeles. Miv writes film reviews for Entertainment Magazine and online, she has also written a comedy drama which was commissioned by BBC TV, sold her short film to REN Media International in 2007, has two screenplays optioned by two Hollywood heavyweights, and published her debut novel How I Exiled My Inner Bitch in August 2013! Phew! I was lucky to rope in this super busy lady to participate in a 10 Q. Enjoy!
How would you describe yourself?
I’d describe myself as very independent, optimistic, outgoing and stubborn. I’m a Scorpio and possess all the good and not-so-good traits of that sign.
Why did you relocate to the US, and why LA?
I had sold my business and I was looking for a new adventure (translation: I was bored!). I had been writing as a hobby for many years so the creative capital of the world seemed to be a natural choice. I’d been on holiday to New York and Florida and loved how friendly everyone was. Yes, I know what everyone says about New York, but I found the opposite to be true.
You moved to the US in 2005, what has been the biggest adjustment for you? For me it was a bit of a culture shock. I’m still adjusting after being here for 15 years.
Adjusting to the healthcare system has probably been the most difficult to deal with. Driving on the wrong side of the road was also a huge challenge, and the bodywork of my car is testament to that fact. Turning left was a major event for the first year. I’m used to two lanes – LA has seven! (OMG YESSSS I totally agree with you Miv)
What inspired you to write How I Exiled My Inner Bitch?
My own personal fight to get myself to behave as well as I possibly could!
How did you come up with the title?
It was originally called Other People’s Kids but when I got asked what it was about, I would say it was about a woman who exiled her inner bitch. That always got a laugh so I decided to play the advantage.
How I Exiled My Inner Bitch is now in audio version. Which company did you use? What was the audition process?
It should be available at the end of August. I didn’t actually use a company; I recorded it myself. I posted a casting notice on Actor’s Access and auditioned on the telephone. I narrated the prose and got the actors in individually to record their roles. I edited the first cut and then sent it to be master edited. I would advise anyone who is thinking of doing this to first of all go through the entire process with the shortest book they can find. I wish I had!
How did you decide on the final voice to play the lead?
That was easy. The one that brought the character off the page.
Do you prefer writing movie scripts or novels?
I just love to write. I also write film reviews and have had 300+ published.
Do you have more books planned?
Yes, three more….eventually.
How do you keep yourself motivated and stay positive?
I’m high-energy so if I haven’t got a lot on my plate, I go looking. I’m also over-optimistic, which brings challenges of its own.
