When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Third grade. The second time I considered myself a writer was the day I finished the draft of my first novel. I was 29. But I think if I’m honest with myself, I’ve always been a writer. It just took a long time for me to find the courage to share my dreams with the world.
Do you have a favorite movie?
And by one you mean three? Linklater’s Before trilogy.
Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?
Of all my novels, the one that I can envision being transformed into a movie is “From A Youth, A Fountain Did Flow.” It’s a story that has resonated deeply with readers, and interestingly enough, several people have compared it to the popular television series Supernatural. Their feedback has sparked my imagination, igniting the desire to see this novel come to life on the silver screen. Now, the question arises: does anyone out there know a Netflix producer who might be interested in bringing this story to the world?
“From A Youth, A Fountain Did Flow” is a thrilling young adult fantasy horror novel about a girl who has lost everything and finds herself in the center of a war between witches and demons. In a world where anything is possible, can she find the things that keep her human? Or is she doomed to a dark destiny?
Netflix, with its reputation for producing captivating and innovative content, would be an ideal platform for this novel’s adaptation. The streaming giant has a knack for embracing unique storytelling and delivering visually stunning experiences to audiences around the globe. The potential to share this tale of self-discovery, intertwined destinies, and the resilience of the human spirit with a wide audience is an enticing prospect—one that could transport viewers into a world where the lines between reality and the supernatural blur.
While the idea of catching the attention of a Netflix producer may seem like a daunting task, I firmly believe in the power of serendipity and the unexpected connections that life brings. So, if by chance there is someone out there who knows a Netflix producer or has a way to bring this story to their attention, I would be overjoyed.
What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?
As an avid reader and writer, I have embarked on several literary pilgrimages in pursuit of immersing myself in the worlds of beloved authors and their stories. One notable journey I undertook was for my first novel, “A Tear In Time.” A large portion of the book is set in Hood River, Oregon, and to truly capture the essence of the setting, I embarked on a road trip to this picturesque town. Walking the streets, breathing in the air, and experiencing the local culture firsthand allowed me to infuse an authentic sense of place into my writing.
Another significant pilgrimage on my literary journey was a visit to Powell’s Books. This iconic bookstore in Portland, Oregon, is a haven for book lovers, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to explore its vast collection and soak in the literary ambiance. The sheer magnitude of books and the palpable passion for reading within its walls were awe-inspiring, leaving an indelible mark on my writer’s soul.
Being a local to the area, I also ventured to Forks, Washington. Made famous by the Twilight series, Forks held a special allure for me. Walking through the town, I could envision the scenes from the book coming to life, and the connection between the setting and the story became tangible. It was a pilgrimage that allowed me to embrace the magic of literature in a place that had been immortalized on the pages and so close to home.
Looking forward, one literary pilgrimage that I dream of undertaking is a visit to Jane Austen’s home. As a passionate admirer of her works, I long to walk in the footsteps of the author herself, to see the landscapes that inspired her enchanting novels, and to witness the atmosphere that shaped her timeless characters. To stand in the presence of Jane Austen’s legacy would be a cherished experience, a chance to pay homage to a literary genius who continues to captivate hearts across the globe.
As a writer what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
