Lavinia Kent talks about Bound by Bliss

When I began writing Bound by Bliss I had only the vaguest idea of what the story was.  I had characters I loved and I knew that they belonged together, but I wasn’t quite sure how to get them there.  Lady Bliss Danser was the younger sister of my hero in Mastering the Marquess.  All of society has decided that she is a spoiled brat and she sees no reason to disillusion them – if everyone is waiting for her to cause a scandal, why not give them one?

Stephan Perth, the Earl of Duldon, sees Bliss differently.  He remembers the sweet girl he grew up with and wants to find her in the woman Bliss has become.  He knows that society sees him as staid and proper, and he needs to find a way to show Bliss that he is anything but – in fact, his thoughts are as far from proper as possible.  Proper gentlemen don’t imagine tying down ladies and dripping hot wax.

But how to get them together?  Duldon knows he wants to marry Bliss, but Bliss has no desire to marry and she certainly cannot imagine marriage to the man she thinks of as Dull Don.

I played with a couple of ideas – a forced marriage, a societal scandal, a snowstorm trapping them together – before I decided to let Bliss take the lead.  Once she decides that she wants her chance for adventure and that she is going to persuade Duldon to be her guide, the fun begins.  After a slight misunderstanding, the two of them enter the back halls of Madame Rouge’s Club for Gentlemen of Taste, where all the rules that bind their lives fall away, and Duldon is finally able to show Bliss exactly how “boring” he is.
