A Quick Chat with Isabel Jolie

If you could have a quiet dinner with just one author, who would you choose? What would you want to discuss? What questions would you ask?

I’d pick Sarina Bowen. I don’t know her, but she’s on a FB author group or two that I’m a part of, and she seems down to earth. I think she’s the kind of person I would hang out with, share a glass of wine or a beer with. She’s also one of my favorite authors. I have yet to read a book of hers I don’t like, and I’d love to ask her questions about how she comes up with her cover designs, title names, and marketing plans. I’d like to plug her brain for writing advice and suggestions for how to grow as an author.

And, I’d like to really dig into how she went about writing Him and Us. A friend has been telling me for ages to listen to those (she said listen, because she’s an audiobook gal, and because she LOVES the narrators.) And I have to concur…I could listen to those two narrators read just about anything. But, I’m so curious as to how many beta readers they had, if they did sensitivity readers – I mean, it’s like a case study in “writing the other.” And both she and Elle Kennedy did an amazing job with Wes and Jamie’s love story. I’m kind of in awe.

As I write this, I am questioning myself. Would I really give up a chance to meet Stephen King, or Danielle Steel, or Nora Roberts or any of the other greats? And, yeah, I think I would. I could still learn so much from a dinner with someone like Sarina Bowen. And yeah, for me, at this point in my life/career, it’s all about learning and growing.
