Writing Kick-Ass Heroines in an Alpha Hero World

I’d like to welcome guest author Sara Jane Stone. Sara is the author of Full Exposure featured below.

When I still down to write, I know three things about my story.

1.     Sexy contemporary. My stories are red-hot reads set in today’s world. (I love a good vampire as much as the next girl, but I don’t write them 🙂 I don’t shy away from a little kink. My characters are grateful for this. And my stories often get hot fast. Again my characters (and hopefully my readers) love this!

2.     Small town setting. I love writing about small town life even though I live in New York City. My husband grew up in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. When we visit, I’m in awe of the area’s natural beauty and the warm welcoming people. It seemed like the perfect place to set Full Exposure. (Later in the series, I feature my mother-in-law’s goats. 🙂

3.     Strong heroine. I love writing independent women, which is what drew me to Georgia’s character. She joined the Army straight out of college and fought in Afghanistan. To serve alongside the Alpha males who typically fill the pages of romance novels, I knew my heroine had to be strong—and maybe a little daring.

In the romance genre, we tend to focus on the Alpha heroes. And they’re important! A twenty-something woman, who served her country and returned to face nightmares and other symptoms of PTSD, deserves a drool-worthy hero. Full Exposure’s Eric Moore is no exception.

Eric is driven by a desire to make Georgia his. But he has a list of reasons not to cross that line. Georgia is his best friend’s little sister, the nanny to his three-year-old nephew whom Eric took in after his sister and brother-in-law died, and she’s struggling to find her place in the world as a female veteran. He is ready and willing to engage in a sexy game of truth or dare on the beach, or a spend a wild night in the hot tub.

Bonus! Oh, and there is a fourth thing I know from page one.

The kick-ass heroines in my books don’t need to be rescued. They can save themselves. And in many cases, like Georgia, love will not solve their problems. But like most women, my strong, independent heroines want a happy-ever-after ending!

Synopsis

No touching allowed …

After serving her country, Georgia Trulane craves adventure—and sex. She’s set her sights on her brother’s best friend—now her boss, since she took a temporary job as his nephew’s live-in nanny. Only problem? Eric refuses to touch her. That doesn’t stop Georgia from seducing him. But an earth-shattering encounter leaves her fully exposed, body and soul.

Eric has a long list of reasons to steer clear of the woman he has wanted for as long as he can remember. For one, he refuses to be her next thrill ride. When he claims her, it will be for good. But the attraction is undeniable, and the more they fight it, the stronger it pulls. But will it be enough to conquer their obstacles?
