What inspired you to write Express Pursuit?
My love of romance, travel, finding yourself in impossible situation which makes you feel emotions on a high level.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Express Pursuit, a romantic thriller?
The story follows Mara Ellington, an Air Traffic Controller who is taking a trip across Europe aboard the famous Orient-Express. She was supposed to travel with her best friend but a tragic accident involving Mara lead to the death of her friend. The heroine, as she is about to embark on the train encounters of bizarre incidents and least of all, her brushing with a Count-Terrorist agent who thinks she is involved in terrorist activities which could result in attacks along the run of the train. They will need to join their forces and race against the deadline of a notorious faction leader if they want to save the lives of the passenger and arrive alive at their destination.
How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book?
I wanted to use a train journey on the Orient-Express, make a bit of a travelogue with breaking the usual murder mystery type of story associated with the train because of Agatha Christie. For the main character, I was looking for a slightly awkward loner with borderline asocial tendency while being intelligent and strong willed. She will face circumstance that will bring out her vulnerable side. As for the love interest, a tenacious, determined man with a quirky and at times laid back attitude seemed like an interesting combination which would also clash with Mara’s personality.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Loved, loved, loved doing research. As I wrote it, I felt like I was watching the movie or was experiencing the ride by proxy. Because I had a specific broad line in my head for the story, reading creative writing craft book help me apply what I learned immediately. Fixing technical challenges of the story also gave me satisfaction. On a side note, when doing research, I eventually came across faces that echoed what I envisioned for the look of the characters it gave a sense of casting thrill and reality.
Tell us about your main characters- what makes them tick?
Mara is someone who is fierce and will defend strongly her independence and won’t accept situations and peoples who are not perceived, by her, as unreasonable or illogical. She butts heads and is also puzzled and frustrated with the sexy FBI and Interpol agent who keep following her despite her the innocence she claims about her involvement with terrorist activities.
