Whether your diet is vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or you’re a meat eater, having the essential tools in your kitchen pantry is key to making food prep fun and efficient.

Cooking Utensils

Hanging kitchen Utensils with measuring cups and spoons

Let’s start with cooking utensils. The good thing about cooking utensils is that you don’t have to buy individual pieces. You can get a complete set relatively inexpensively.

Silicone is a good start because it is safe, unlike plastic, it will not disintegrate and come off in your food. Silicone has a high heat tolerance and it is recommended for nonstick cookware.

Unlike bamboo, it can be used in the dishwasher.

This hanging utensil set is great if you live in a small space and the counter space is limited or if you just want something cool looking.

You can save even more because this one comes with measuring cups and spoons which you are going to need anyway. Check it out on Amazon.

Kitchen Knives

Color coded kitchen knife set

What I like about this knife set is that it comes in a set that includes a bread knife, a pairing knife, and all others that you’ll need.

Don’t worry if you know what they are for, as you get further along in your cooking journey you’ll learn.

Another plus point with this set is that it comes with blade guards if you want to store them in a drawer, they are also color-coded to help prevent cross-contamination.

You’ll also find knife sets that come with storage for the counter, those can be a little more expensive. Here’s where you can find the featured knife set.

Cutting Boards

Cutting boards are a must-have. I did a whole post on cutting boards where I broke down the types and styles that are available. From space-saving to multifunctional, these are definitely not your grandma’s cutting boards. Check it out here.

Food Storage Containers

Your dry food will last longer and stay fresher if they are placed in airtight containers.

Not to mention it keeps your pantry organized and looks pretty.

I grabbed this one because it comes as a set and has all the essential sizes you would need. Also, it has reusable labels, with a special marker, it is stackable and it has a lid spout for easy pouring. Check it out here.

Spice Rack

Depending on your space situation, this carousel spice rack is versatile enough to use under kitchen cabinets or on the counter.

The added benefit is that with the turn of the dial you can get precise 1/4 spoon measurements. Check it out here.

Cookware

Ceremic cookware

Cookware can get pretty expensive depending on the brand, celebrity endorsements, or professional standards.

If you’re setting up your pantry for the first time, you’ll just need the basics then you can grow your collection over time.

It’s best to avoid Teflon-coated pots because they are not as healthy for you to cook with, they break down over time and seep into your food. Read more about the dangers of Teflon here.

Cast iron pots are always a good option but it takes a bit of work to upkeep, plus they are heavy and not dishwasher safe. On the plus side, they will last forever.

The pots featured here are non-stick without toxic stuff. It comes with a saucepan, frying pan, saute pan, and interchangeable lid. Check it out here, there are also more options if you want a bigger set. If you want to do a little more research on different types of pots, check out this link.
