Enjoying New Mexico

Article by Sherrian Felix

It has been five months since I became a New Mexico resident, and I am loving every minute of it. Being in a place so rich in culture and filled with beauty, I felt it is my duty to share some of what I have seen, and perhaps offer some insight into places to visit in New Mexico.

Located in the Manzano Mountains, the Fourth of July Campground and Canyon, has been made famous by the brilliant display of colors from the large maple trees during the fall.

I took these pictures from the Fourth of July Canyon two weeks ago.

El Rancho De Las Golondrinas (The Ranch of the Swallows) is a living history museum located in Santa Fe. I was fortunate enough to attend the Harvest Festival this year. I got the opportunity to crush grapes for wine by foot, make tortillas, grind corn for flower, look at animals and watch the spanish dancers on the main stage.

At first glance the entrance to the Isleta Amphitheater looks like a giant parking lot with the outline of a giant guitar at the end…but this isn’t just any parking lot; this is where Breaking Bad’s Walter White blew up Walt Jr’s brand new Mustang. And that giant guitar isn’t there just for decoration; it actually serves as the entrance to the theater.

When the sun hits the onion shaped exterior of the Isleta Casino Spa, it gives the illusion of a liquid surface. This unique location can also add its name to the Breaking Bad alumni. It was used as Jesse’s rehab center.

I hope you enjoyed my pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them. Feel free to leave a comment below.

  1. I would never have thought those beautiful color changing leaves would be in New Mexico. The museum in Santa Fe looks like a lot of fun. I’d love to learn how to make tortillas. Anytime I can learn how to make a food from a culture different from my own is something I consider to be a lot of fun. Great post!

    1. If you ever venture out here, let me know I would love to take you around. There is so much to see and do out here people don’t know.

  2. Sherrian, your pictures are so fantastic. Thank you for sharing. I’ve only driven through New Mexico. You’ve done a great job capturing the local feel and ambiance. Very appealing. Well done.

    1. Thank you. There is so much beauty out here, finding subject matter is the easy part.
