Get to Know Author, Carla Day

Author Carla Day was born in Leicestershire in 1970, to parents Barrie and Pamela Day. She moved from place to place, not really settling anywhere for any length of time but collecting life stories along the way, which she would one day pen, on a weather-beaten log in Wales, with her dog by her side.

Can you, for those who don’t know you already, tell something about yourself and how you became an author?

I became interested in writing at the age of thirty, after my son was born, although I’ve always been a storyteller and daydreamer. It used to get me in trouble at school. When I was a kid, I used to imagine all sorts of crazy things and sketch them and jot them down, not really knowing when I would ever use them. They came in handy when I started writing seriously. I believe I was born to be a writer.

What is something unique/quirky about you?

I love to sit in cafes and listen to conversations and to people watch. It’s great research. All kinds of people end up in my stories. Just look out for the woman with a notebook and pen and mischievous look in her eye, when you are at a coffee shop, it could be me. That sounds weird writing it down!

If you knew you’d die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day?

Cuddling my son.

Who is your hero and why?

My son. He’s everything I dreamed he would be.

What kind of world ruler would you be?

I’d be a terrible ruler, I’m too much of a free spirit, the world would be in chaos. I hate rules.

What are you passionate about these days?

Animal welfare. I love animals, I’d like a farm one day with a pig and a goat and a few chickens.

What do you do to unwind and relax?

Drink red wine, hike hills and mountains and walk the beach with my girl dog, collecting sea things. And of course, read…
