All About Bastard’s Brew

Book cover Bastard's BrewEverything we touch, we destroy.

When L’Wren’s ex-boyfriend Jeff suddenly disappears, she turns to Kevin to help her find him. With one phone call, Kevin makes sure that Jeff stays hidden and that L’Wren’s heart is broken, leaving the door open for Kevin to pursue her. But Kevin is not as free as L’Wren thinks; she is in the dark about his affair with her stepmother, Savi. Savi constantly reminds Kevin of his devious ways and uses their secret to keep him as her toyfriend.

“You don’t deserve to be loved, and you don’t deserve to be happy. You and I are the same … we’re broken inside. Everything we touch, we destroy. We don’t get happily ever after … we don’t get to ride off into the sunset. You know who gets that? L’Wren … she gets it, she gets the guy, and she deserves a decent guy.”- Savi

Kevin desires to be the man that L’Wren deserves, but before he can assume the role of white knight, he brews one last plan to get rid of Savi for good. Will L’Wren, the innocent victim in their twisted game, become a casualty?

Kevin may have sold his body to the devil in stilettos, but he’d be damned if he let her have his heart.

What people are saying about Bastard’s Brew

Kevin BanovicFeaturing the loveable bad boy Kevin in Bastard’s Brew was an absolute must. Readers loved him and were eager to know more about him.

In Brew, we got to see Kevin and L’Wren’s relationship intensify. I introduced Victoria Johansson, who was only supposed to be in this book but readers liked her, so she puts in an appearance in the novels to come. Of course the series wouldn’t be what it is without some kind of scandal, so expect the unexpected where Vicky J is concerned. I actually loved writing her and I look forward to seeing where she takes me and the readers. She was not part of the original TV series, she just kind of happened as an ally to Kevin.  Apart from Kev’s frenemyship with Haze, he really has no one who knows both sides of him.

Victoria is the exact opposite of L’Wren yet they both make up an important part of Kevin’s life. Their paths never cross and I think it would be interesting to see the interaction between these two ladies if they do meet.

Of the four books in the series so far, if I had to pick a favorite, Brew would be it. I loved the intense drama. While writing it I never knew what the characters were going to do. I had an outline, but once I started writing, they clearly took over! So far this book was the darkest.

There was something wickedly exciting about seeing what Kevin would do next to try and get out of the blackmail – Rachel B

Don’t expect the Banovic parents in Brew. I sent them to Europe on business. I wanted to see how the kids would get on without parental guidance, and they didn’t disappoint. Alliances were formed, trust broken but in the end the siblings came together in love and support in their own way.

Adriana and Haze’s relationship is put to the test in a big way. I absolutely loved them in this book.

Adriana shows us a side we haven’t seen before; loving and vulnerable. A good look for her. – Mel

Haze also got a huge break in his career that could soothe his financial woos for a while, however that is overshadowed by unfortunate events. Bastard’s Brew brought to light male rape, which is hardly ever talked about in any medium.

The soundtrack

I added a soundtrack for this book and all the books to come after. Even if you don’t read the book, just listen to the soundtrack you will get a feel of it.  The songs I chose felt right for the tone of the book and worked with different scenes.

Let her go – Passenger

Demons – Imagine Dragons

Sweater Weather – The Neighbourhood

Internet Friend – Knife Party

Ass Back home – Gym Class Heros

Love Remains – Gavin Rossdale

One more night – Maroon 5

Radioactive – Imagine Dragons

Wild ones – Flo Rida

All of me – John Legend

There were so many good ones in this edition, but I’ll go with when Haze broke up with Adriana via text the same day she was under house arrest. There was so much drama and intensity in that chapter my fingers were typing about 40 mph.

Excerpt from Chapter 22: Love Makes You Crazy

Thirty minutes later Adriana arrived at Haze’s apartment. She tried the lock, rang the doorbell and pounded on the door with her good hand. She saw his car parked on the street and looked through the glass panel at the side of the door and saw his keys on the coffee table. Out of sheer frustration and desperate to see him, she knew she could fit through the panel at the side of the door and looked around for something to break it. That should get his attention if he was ignoring her. She struggled to balance the potted topiary with her good arm and in one swift move shattered the panel. She waited a moment to see if he would surface, but he didn’t, then saw the spare key on the ground where the topiary once stood. She picked it up and opened the door. Once inside, she was careful not to step on the broken glass. Adriana called out to him, but the house was deathly silent. She turned the door knob to Haze’s room and opened it slowly. She barely recognized the man who lay in the bed. His handsome face was covered with hair. Next to him was an empty bottle of Jack Daniel’s and a bong on the floor. Adriana slowly walked into the room; she called him softly. Questions flooded her mind as she sat next to him and tried to wake him. The hair on her body stood at attention as she realized he wasn’t waking up. She slapped his face and got no reaction. Panic consumed her as she realized her worst fear had come true.

“Haze!” she screamed. “Oh my god, nooooo!” She pounded on his chest. “Wake the fuck up, Haze!” she cried. “You are not gonna fucking die and leave me! You hear me?!” She searched for her phone and dialed 9-1-1. The operator tried to calm her down. Adriana did everything she was told, but Haze didn’t respond.

“He’s not waking up,” she cried.

The operator informed her that help was on the way.

“He has a heart problem. I don’t know what it is. Haze, wake up, please! Please, Haze, I’ll never ask you for anything else, Haze, please,” she pleaded as sirens outside blared.

They attended to Haze immediately, injecting fluids into him and frantically doing their medical thing. The whole ordeal played out in slow motion through Adriana’s eyes. Their words seemed muffled, and she saw them attach the AED pads to his chest. When his body reacted to the charge with a quick jerk, Adriana fainted.
