Gillian’s best of 2015

As we bid adieu to 2015 I thought I’d get on the bandwagon and throw in my best of 2015 list. Enjoy!

Top Netflix binge show:

Sons of Anarchy. I love Sons because the writing is fantastic! The characters are so well developed and so complex that even though they are the “bad guys” I couldn’t help falling for them.

We’re not a gang, we’re a motorcycle club

Here’s a description of the show as posted on Amazon:

Sons of Anarchy is an adrenalised drama with darkly comedic undertones about a notorious outlaw motorcycle club intent on protecting their sheltered small town against encroaching drug dealers, corporate developers and overzealous law officers. The club is equally determined to protect their ruthless and illegally thriving arms business.  Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller, a man whose love for the brotherhood is tested by his growing apprehension for its lawlessness. Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax’s force-of-nature mother, who along with Ron Perlman as Clarence ‘Clay’ Morrow, Jax’s stepfather and MC President, have their own darker vision for the club.

Gemma (played by Katey Segal) the matriarch and Mistress of Mayhem won me over. To me she is the baddest bitch I have ever seen on television. Many people have lost their lives at the hand of her. Yet she has something that draws you in, even though you may not agree with her actions she still gets to you.

The show has made me a fan of it’s creator Kurt Stutter. I’ve seen all 92 episodes 6 times, that’s 552 episodes! I think I may have seen it more times than Mr. Stutter himself. Apart from the characters and the compelling storylines there is the soundtrack. I love it, most of it comes courtesy Katey Segal and the Forest Rangers. Who knew her voice is so hauntingly beautiful?

Best gift EVER!!! from my sister.

Hottie of the year

Jax TellerCharlie Hunnam. Thanks to SOA I noticed this hottie, since then I’ve made it my mission to see everything he’s acted in. I watched every episode of Undeclared, granted the show was lame but watched all of the episodes the few seasons it was on. If you are looking for something good to watch I enjoyed The Ledge. The cast members included Terrence Howard, Liv Tyler.

Here’s a synopsis:

After an atheistic neighbor (Charlie Hunnam) has an affair with his wife, a vengeful Fundamentalist forces the man to choose between killing himself or allowing someone else to die in his place.

I look forward to completing my list of Charlie Hunnam movies, including Pacific Rim, not exactly my genre but hey, Charlie’s in it.

Song of the year

Honey I’m Good by Andy Grammer. I love this song because it is such a feel good song. I dare you to listen to it without slapping your knee in time with the music.

Music video of the year

Taylor Swift’s Blank Space. To me Miss Swift is the reigning queen of music videos. On many occasions I’ve gotten caught up in her videos on VIMEO. You can’t just watch one, consider yourself warned. Taylor is not afraid of making fun of herself, the result a hella fun video whether you like the music or not.

Restaurants of the year

Thai Tip on 1512 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Thai Tip has the very best Thai curry I’ve ever tasted and believe me I’ve sampled my share of Thai curry. The portion size is great for the price and the food is oh so tasty. It depends on the day, you may not get a seat, the restaurant is small and homely. Burque residents love this place so it can fill up quickly. Click to check out the menu and prices.

An Hy Quan Vegetarian Restaurant on 1405 Juan Tabo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.  An Hy Quan is vegetarian and vegan, you’d never miss the meat, the food is fresh and tasty, it is obvious that they use the freshest ingredients. This is also a small place but not too many people know about them so there is always a seat. The restaurant is family owned and the seating area reminds me of being in someone’s drawing room or dining room in a small home. Very cozy.

Most memorable event

Spending my mom’s 60th birthday in a real live log cabin in the Jemez. The Elk Mountain Lodge is family owned, bed and breakfast retreat in the Jemez Mountain. They have 5 types of cabins depending on your preference, and boy are they packed with niceties.  Click to check them out.

Most out of my comfort zone moment

Driving a luxury caravan on a commercial shoot through some crazy-ass terrain in Roswell. Photos are below.

Most life changing moment

Finally getting my citizenship and holding my US passport in my hand. Something about a US passport made me feel free and proud. I guess that’s what it means to be a proud American!

Now that 2015 is nearly behind us, lets keep our eyes on the future and welcome it with all it’s uncertainty and adventures. I look forward to it, I hope you do too.
