What people are saying about Banovic Siblings.
What’s up with the Banovic Siblings?
Banovic Siblings continued from where Changes left off. I wrote them almost simultaneously in case people liked Changes and wanted to know what happened next, the wait wasn’t too long.
A lot of information came out in Banovic Siblings such as how the characters are connected, and boy are they connected!
While Siblings mostly focused on the first and second generation Banovics, we also got to learn a lot about the DaCostas.
This is when the Banovic and the DeCosta children start to come into their own. They are not innocent like other NA book characters. – Rachel P
Siblings is very fast paced because it takes readers on a roller coaster ride in the lives of the families. I believe after reading Siblings, readers began to understand my writing style, which is not really what you would find in this genre. The series is written to flow like it would if readers were watching a television series; encouraging readers to play out the scenario in their minds. It’s television for people who like to read. This was a new concept for some readers, who by now have started to warm up to the approach.
Author Gillian Felix has created prime time-worthy reading here, so set up your mental wide screen and sit back and take a deep breath, because once you start page one, you will be going at warp speed as these teens navigate the webs they have woven. – DiBylo, Tome Tender
Readers either loved it or hated it. At this point the apples and oranges started to get separated. Those who loved it, made sure to tell me, which I appreciated. The ones that didn’t, left reviews that stung but overall, the results were mostly positive, so I worked with that and continued to book 3. That being said, the pressure was on to make book 3 extra special, so readers would stick with the series and also bring in new devotees.
Readers Have Spoken
At this point, readers started to choose their favorites. The most popular was resident bad boy Kevin, followed closely by Haze, then Leighann and Adriana came in at a tie. I’ve noticed that readers who loved Leighann didn’t particularly care for Adriana and vice-versa. Very rarely did readers like both characters, which is understandable because one is a protagonist and the other antagonist. Go Team Leighann or Team Adriana!
My task in choosing what came next in book 3 was slightly based on the above facts. I had all the story lines already written in script form, scattered over the 24 episodes, I had to pull from different points in the TV series. This was tricky if not done right, because it would affect the timelines and subsequently the other stories to come. As a result the books became very different from the TV series. New story lines were added, and some characters merged into one, to make it easier for readers to understand because they are not physically seeing the characters.
Coupling
“Siblings” marked the beginning of Kevin and L’Wren, Haze and Adriana.
Both Kevin and Adriana brings their A game to get their love interest. But of course, there are obstacles like former lovers, present lovers and wannabe lovers. We got to see how dark these two siblings can get and what they will do to get what they want.
Location and Fashion
We learned about where the characters hung out and what they ate and wore. All the places mentioned are actual places in Los Angeles. The Grove being my favorite. Joan’s On Third,Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Pinks. Learn about the other locations here.
The Cast
Apart from the main cast, the cast list changes from book to book.
Siblings get a new look
The Banovic Siblings (book 2), underwent a facelift to keep with the branding of the series. The original cover was released on December 3, 2013.
My sister came up with the design for the first cover. I loved it! The idea was to have a few classic lines of the book on the cover. The book is known for that cover.
With the 2nd cover I wanted to feature the siblings, the stance of the silhouettes shows the personality of each sibling.
I liked the 2nd one but with the 3rd I was thinking about branding, so I took the images from the 2nd design and incorporated it into the style of the newest Changes cover.
I wanted more color so I added a background and some textures and came up with the most recent.
Favorite scene
Adriana introduces Leighann to pot. In this scene the girls bond… sort of. Readers got the see Adriana and Leighann as the complete opposite of each other. Here’s the scene:
Leighann coughed violently as the smoke burned the inside of her chest and feared she’d damage her lungs. Her eyes watered, her nostrils burned, and her throat felt as if it had been touched with a hot iron. She tried desperately to catch her breath.
Adriana made no move to comfort her and continued smoking.
“Oh my god, where did you get that?” Leighann managed to catch her breath.
“Your boyfriend. He thinks I don’t know where his stash is,” Adriana said calmly.
“Isn’t he going to miss it?” Leighann finally got her breathing under control.
“What’s he gonna do? Go stomping down the hall, yelling who took my weed!”
They looked at each other and started to laugh uncontrollably until their bellies hurt and water sprang from their eyes.
“Can you imagine the look on my parents’ faces?” Adriana laughed.
Leighann felt good, too good. She couldn’t stop laughing, and neither could Adriana.
“Serves him right for having it in the first place!” Leighann added.
Adriana agreed.
After several puffs between them, Adriana helped Leighann off the roof and through Adriana’s bedroom window.
“My legs feel like leather, oh my god! They’re huge like elephant trunks!” Leighann babbled.
Adriana helped her to the desk chair in her bedroom.
“I can’t move my legs. I’m so sleepy,” Leighann slurred.
“Shit!” Adriana moved her to the bed, and she collapsed like a sack of potatoes. She rolled her on her belly. “Stay here. Don’t move.” Adriana sprayed a cloud of perfume in the air and walked through the mist and then ran down to the kitchen.
