Though we’ve been residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas for over twenty years, we just moved up to the northern area and are discovering all kinds of new experiences—both hidden and openly known. Here are some of the favorite things the Dallas family likes to do in DFW:
1. Kimzey’s Coffee (Argyle) – This location just recently went viral online because the coffee shop is actually built to look like a cottage straight out of your favorite fairy tale! The roof is probably my favorite part, but the atmosphere inside is perfect for meeting a friend to chat or to steal some focused writing time with your laptop and headphones. https://www.kimzeys.com/
2. Farmhouse Coffee & Treasures (Argyle) – While we’re talking about great coffee shops, this is probably our favorite place to visit in the Harvest neighborhood. Not only do they sell all kinds of décor and candles for the farmhouse style lover, but the drinks and food are fantastic. (Hello, blueberry coffee cake!) If you happen to visit on a Tuesday, don’t miss out on their homemade tacos! https://www.farmhousecoffeetx.com/
3. Earl’s 377 (Argyle) – They have the best thin crust pizza in the area—not to mention our favorite generous portions of Caesar salad. If delicious Italian food doesn’t get you, the environment will—old suitcase trunks, bunker-like spray paint, mismatched chairs, and a gorgeous memorial for firefighters. The Bianca pizza is my personal fave and, BONUS, Earl’s shares a parking lot with Kimzey’s so you can grab some coffee after your meal! https://www.earls377pizza.com/
4. Mainstay Farm (Cleburne) – If you come to DFW in the fall, you have to check out Mainstay Farm’s Fall Festival. It’s a family fave because there’s so much to do and the atmosphere is just lovely. With over 40 attractions, a super-fun pumpkin patch, and even a winery, there’s something for all ages at the farm. https://www.mainstayfarm.com/
5. Dallas Arboretum (Dallas) – When it comes to fall pumpkin patches, Autumn at the Arboretum is a feast for the eyes! Their Halloween Spooktacular Nights are especially fun, with pumpkins turned into immersive art experiences. https://www.dallasarboretum.org/autumn-at-the-arboretum/
6. Meow Wolf (Grapevine) – Calling all lovers of the arts and the brain-bending weird! You can’t miss Meow Wolf at Grapevine Mills Mall if you’re in the area. This immersive experience is the collaborative work of artists in Texas and New Mexico. The month of October features lots of spooky-themed art events! https://meowwolf.com/visit/grapevine
7. Texas State Fair (Dallas) – Is there anything more Texan than a day at the state fair? We always eat whatever we want and then ride whatever we want until we get upset stomachs! We love the atmosphere and watching the parade from right under Big Tex’s boots. It’s one of our favorite fall traditions! https://bigtex.com/2023-schedule/
8. Fort Worth Zoo (Fort Worth) – There’s a reason we keep our zoo membership every year… It’s a great place to pop in when the weather is mild in the fall, there are lots of fun events, and the kids can just run around and be one with the animals. Boo at the Zoo is a fun annual tradition for littles in their Halloween costumes! https://www.fortworthzoo.org/boo-at-the-zoo
9. Gaylord Texan Resort (Grapevine) – This might be getting more into winter, but we usually start planning our day trip to the Gaylord to kick off the Christmas season in early November. We highly recommend the ICE! exhibit, snow tubing, Santa’s Village and Workshop, and all the amazing decorations in the atrium. https://christmasatgaylordtexan.marriott.com
10. Anywhere, Texas – Pick a coffee shop. Or a park. A bookstore or a patio. Take a book like Wish Upon A Streaming Star and go sit and read outside! Texas fall weather is usually lovely and a perfect opportunity to do something to engage your imagination. After visiting one of the places mentioned above, let it inspire you. Read. Write. Draw. Create. All of my books feature places and characters from Texas! http://KrissiDallas.com

About the Book
Wish Upon A Streaming Star (Season 1 Volume 1) by Krissi Dallas
Publication date: July 7th 2024
Genres: Comedy, Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult
He’s an internet star.
She can’t stand him.
Together they just went viral.
Daisy McEntire might seem like an uptight control freak, but it’s only because she’s trying to graduate high school, support her cancer-fighting mother, and save her family’s riverside campground. The last thing she needs is her obnoxious neighbor, internet star Caz Cortéz, keeping everyone up with his late night video stunts and ridiculous pranks. Forget that they grew up as best friends—that was before he relentlessly obsessed over his hair and stats.
But when Daisy accidentally botches one of Caz’s pranks on livestream, the video goes viral, endangering his sponsorships and throwing her into an unwelcome spotlight. As if the overnight attention isn’t enough, half a million dollars in an unbreakable lockbox mysteriously appears. The key to unlock it? Reenact a series of cliché Hollywood movie scenes together within 48 hours.
The catch? It all has to be done live on the Internet—no rehearsals.
Daisy needs the money. Caz needs the stats. Surely they can work together long enough to complete the challenge, split their earnings, and then get back to ignoring each other from across the property line.
The one challenge they can’t control, though, is the one that could jeopardize it all—falling in love.
